Years ago, Ilse had pen friends across Europe, and with some of them we still stay in touch. The people in Belarus we are visiting now we also met this way, and they visited us in 1995 and 2000. They invited us to come over several times, but we never felt it was the right time to do so.
We have travelled to Ukraine in the early nineties, and it was the most memorable journey we ever made, so it was definitely worth it. But on the other hand we also experienced one needs to be quite flexible to enjoy such a trip, and that's what worried us about going with our children.
Last winter however, we received an invitation of our Belarusian friends to attend their daughter's wedding, so now we have a very good reason to plan another journey to eastern Europe.
Moreover, since we have our own camper now we can make a nice trip through Poland on our way to Belarus.
